This fin is considered by our hard-marking team as a "second."
The images here are only for reference, and each fin defect may differ slightly from the photos shown.
Typical issues are purely minor cosmetic issues and will mostly go unnoticed once on the board.
The images shown are also the worst examples, so we predict that you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good the fins are when they arrive.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer returns or refunds on these fins, so please reconsider purchasing if you are a super picky shopper.
Defects on this fin may include:
- Small scratches
- Air bubbles
- Uneven lines due to the fiberglass panel layup
- Resin colour bleeds or small drips
The Big Sky Twin Keel LG/Model 1 comes from over 50 years of Larry Gephart's design experimentation with the Fish. Larry has been testing, refining and foiling fins since the late sixties. It's a smaller keel than was initially used in Derek Hynd's Frye fish that he rode in Litmus. Initially, Larry made the keels out of plywood, working closely with Skip Frye to provide multiple options for Hynd when he experimented with the Fish design in the early 90s at J'Bay.
25 years on, and The Big Sky Twin Keel LG/Model 1 is a classic, all-around, medium-sized keel. A perfect entry point for Fish enthusiasts to feel the drive and hold of a double foiled keel.
Why the Double Foil?
The Twin Keel and High Aspect Twin both feature a double foil.
Basically, this allows the water to wrap around the fin as the fin travels through the water, similarly to the centre fin on a Thruster or Single Fin. The double foil helps stop cavitation in turning, as the water sucks around the fin rather than breaking off the edge of the flat inside surface. This gives the surfer more control and stops the fin from breaking free in the turn. It's a smoother feeling.
